Application Procedure

The International Student Office (ISO) handles all applications of foreign students who want to enrol for one of the study programmes in English or German, with the exception of students that want to apply for the Prince Claus Conservatoire and Academie Minerva*.

Apply online

When you have decided to apply for a study programme at Hanze University Groningen you can complete our online application module and apply for the study programme of your choice. After you have completed the online application, you need to print and sign it and send your application with the supporting documents to the ISO at our postal address. You can find the required supporting documents listed below under the different programmes. Upon receipt of your application we will send you a confirmation e-mail.

Application review

Most of you are probably aware that Hanze University Groningen is divided into 19 different schools. If your application is complete we will send it to the school of your choice. The admissions coordinator of the school will review your application and will decide whether you are accepted or not. We aim at notifying students about whether or not they can be admitted within two weeks after receiving the application. When the application file is incomplete your file may be put on hold or in some cases you may be provisionally accepted. You will then need to hand in the missing document(s) to become fully accepted.

Letter of acceptance
In case you are accepted we will send you an official letter of acceptance by postal mail. You will be required to meet our enrolment requirements and you can start the procedure to apply for the various facilities that Hanze University Groningen offers.

Attached with the letter of acceptance we will send you our ISO information booklet in which you can find information about visa, housing, insurance, etc.

Students who do not meet our admittance requirements will receive a letter of rejection. In this letter it will be stated how to appeal to the decision.

In some cases you may receive a letter of provisional acceptance at first. In this case you are not fully admitted yet. You still need to send your diploma and/or your language proficiency. Please be aware that you can not enrol as a student until you have been fully admitted and you have received your final letter of acceptance.

*Students who want to apply to the Prince Claus Conservatoire and Academy Minerva can not use the online application module: they should contact these departments directly.

Studielink

Recently, a new system has been introduced in the Netherlands for the enrolment into higher education degree programmes. This nation-wide system is called "Studielink." Students who wish to enrol at a Dutch higher education institution have to register with "Studielink." However, Hanze University Groningen makes use of an online application module for foreign students opting for one of our international programmes.

In short:
- Foreign students who wish to apply for one of our Dutch study programmes, need to enrol through "Studielink":

- Foreign students who wish to enrol for one of our international programmes, in English or German, need to use our online application module.
